Slow video capture even in fast systems using Windows XP or Vista
Cause: Currently undetermined
Solution A:
Change the codec or compression settings by going to: Capture video > “Compress” button
Recommendation:
For VIDEO using AM4XX series to choose the compression-- Microsoft Video 1 or Microsoft MPEG4
Other options:
Downloaded AMCAP from http://amcap.en.softonic.com
Suggest use resolution 800x600 and 10 frames per second to take video.
or
Xvid
could be downloaded from www.xvid.org
http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/
DivX
http://www.divx.com/
Please note that not every computer works best with the default codec that DinoCapture selects for video recording . If video recoding is choppy or you cannot view the live image while recording, try testing different video codec’s.
To change the codec or compression settings, go to:
Capture >Video > In the Capture Video Parameters, select the “Compress” button > Under “Compressor” there is a drop down menu > within that menu you can test different codec’s. You can also adjust “Compression Quality” with certain codec’s which can also affect results > Press “OK” when finished with adjustments. It is also recommended to enable the capture time limit setting and set the time to a shorter time such as 10 seconds for easier testing.
Other possible solutions
Solutions B:
Changing Virtual memory by: Control Panel > System > advanced > Performance “Settings” button > Advanced > Virtual Memory “Change” > highlight what drive DinoCapture is installed to > Select “System managed size” > OK
Solutions C:
Removing temporary files by going to: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > Disk Cleanup.
How do I get better color quality?
There are many different things that effect images such as lighting and the angle of your camera.
A tip on getting better image results other than using the default settings for our scopes is to adjust
the camera settings by going to Settings > Real-time image settings. From there you can adjust settings
such as white balance, exposure, and saturation.
A tip for adjusting image results for better color quality is to manually adjust the color by adjusting
the white balance and exposure to match a white surface such as white paper.
How to get accurate colors with coins or jewelry:
Use Extra Desktop light- GemOro DiaLight Star lamp.
http://www.kingsleynorth.com/skshop/product.php?id=92986&catID=647
or
using nature light source such as Dazor 318A3 3 Tube Desk Lamp or different backgrounds
Background for coins
* Natural light or the LED’s on the scope provide the best lighting
* For orange colored objects such as gold. A blue background would provide a good image
* For light colored objects such as silver. A black background would provide a good image
* For dark colored object such as an old dark brown coin, a white background would provide a good image
How do I adjust White Balance?
The Dino-Lite Digital Microscope is set to automatic white balance by default. Automatic white balance does a very good job under most circumstances, especially in good light. However, there are times when white balance needs to be changed manually to match the lighting in order to obtain more true-to-life colors in a photo.
To adjust the automatic white balance in the DinoCapture software, place a completely white object underneath the Microscope. (Example: A white piece of paper or business card.) Move the microscope near the white object and then adjust the magnification until the object is in focus.
(If the real time image is in focus and starts to fade in and out, wait 10 seconds then proceed to the next step).
Once the object is in focus
Go to Settings > Real-Time image setting > Uncheck the box under the White Balance option.
Note:
Please use the same lighting conditions before and after adjusting the advance white balance setting.
If the lighting conditions change after the white balance has been set. Please repeat the steps to adjust the advance white balance setting.
Adjust Brightness or Darkness or view objects at right color
A1. Move the mouse pointer under the live view window to view in the DinoCapture program to
view the exposure bar (Left # is default, Right # is user defined) available Version 2.5.0.0 or +
or
Go to Settings> Real-time image settings> on the “Settings” tab you can adjust the “Brightness”
or “Exposure” to your liking.
A2. Select Video setup and simply adjust the brightness using the Brightness feature. This
allows you to adjust brightness of the monitor/display only.
A3. Turn on/off the LED’s and use external light (suggest using natural light source)
Install Dino-Lite drivers each time after you reboot the computer in a network environment.
Solution:
Have the Network Administrator install then run and close the program for the first time or at least one time.
To Check if DinoCapture is already installed in your computer
go to: Run
(type) REGEDIT
Find the file located in-
Hkey_Local_machine
System
CurrentControlSet
Enum
USB
Vid_a168&Pid......
If the device is plugged in. It should show VID_A168******
if unplugged, it should still be there.
If the DinoLite is plugged in and it is still not working, then delete this file and reinstall it again.
It is possible that the file is corrupted.
Photoshop starts when the microtouch button is pressed
In “Run” type in “regedit” when the new windows pop up find this file
“StillImage” located in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\StillImage
(*** Suggest Backup StillImage folder first ***)
and then delete the files inside or the whole folder.
When finished restart the computer.

AMCAP http://amcap.en.softonic.com
or
Dorgem http://dorgem.sourceforge.net/download.html
A note that since these are third party software, some features advertised might not be functional other than the basic use of the Dino-Lite Microscopes such as viewing and taking pictures.

LED’s turn on and off by themselves
The LED is on “Auto” mode
Solution:
For the updated MAC 4.0 driver, we believe that the lights flicker because once you install the driver it is initially set
to “Auto” for the LED’s.
To change it so that it is always on, while in DinoScope select “Monitor” > then “Video Settings” > Then near the
bottom of the window, there is a drop-down that lets you choose LED settings. If it is on “Auto” switch it to “on”. This
should prevent the LED’s from randomly turning on and off.
